A few hours ago Google listed this side as suspicious. See also Safe browsing.

We checked the webpages, indeed found some manipulated files (index.html, index.php contained some hidden iframes) and exchanged them. As far as we can see no other files are affected, especially no downloadable files like the GNU Backgammon binaries (Windows, MacOS and Linux). But it won't hurt if you always check your downloads with an updated virus scanner.

We will investigate further and contact Google as soon as we are sure that the exploit is eliminated. Sorry for any inconvenicence. 

 

There are new packages available for MacOS 10.5:

 The first package contains only gnubg files (all located in /opt/local/) and expects the necessary libraries being installed in /opt/local/lib. The second package also contains all libraries besides python and X11.

 Gnubg is no native MacOS application so you have to open a terminal an type "/opt/local/bin/gnubg" for starting it. The first start will last a few seconds because the X-server also has to be started (happens automatically).

 Icons for a more convenient start will follow.

There are also new packages for GNU/Linux distributions available including 3d-support and some optimizations:

OpenSuSE: built on OpenSuSE-10.1
RedHat/Fedora: built on RedHat Advanced Server 4

The snapshots have been divided into two branches, a stable "rel_0_15" (rpms are built from these) and a current "MAIN" branch. The "MAIN" branch will be updated daily, the "rel_0_15" from time to time. Please note that "rel_0_15" doesn't contain any new features but only bugfixes.

Hi all,

I'm back from Torino where GnuBG has just won the 2006 Computer Olympics Backgammon "tournament", defeating its only opponent, BGBlitz by Frank Berger. Final score is 3-1 (best of 5 matches, 15pts each), with individual scores of 3-15, 16-12, 15-8 and 17-13.

Analysed matches (supremo, g11 met) can be downloaded here (359Kb).

For the records, BGBlitz is truly strong: it has been rated by gnubg analysis in the 4 matches as 1997.4, 2004.5 2035.1 and 2025.4 (FIBS rating) and in the first two matches, Frank used by mistake the "old" engine (winning one of them anyway).

Some are asking if there is a commandline version available for MS Windows with SSE support. Yes, now there is. Download here. This build has not been tested much, so please report if there's something wrong. I believe it should work with Tony Lezards Dueller.

After a terrible disk crash at our web host, we have now been able to reopen the website based on backups. There still might be some problems logging in. If you have any problems logging in it's suggested that you create a new user. If you see any problems with the web site, please report to webmaster.

Some of you have reported that there was a bug in the previous version. Cube analysis was inconsistent and gave different results each time you pressed a evaluation button. This bug has been found and fixed.

Because of this bug fix, here is the last build of GNU Backgammon for Windows based on GTK+-1.3 libraries that will ever be available from this site.
